LAS VEGAS STREET ART IS REVITALIZING DOWNTOWN

by julianna aquino

Did you know Las Vegas has been voted one of the best cities for street art? Downtown Las Vegas has gone through a period of revitalization and it shows. The best part of the revitalization is the amazing street art scene. There are two very different areas of Las Vegas street art to explore: Fremont Street East and 18b Arts District.

Las Vegas Street Art: Fremont Street East

Fremont Street East is a 15 block area full of murals and art installations.  Since 2013 Las Vegas has hosted the Life is Beautiful Festival. The festival invites internationally recognized street artists to participate in 3 days of music, art, food and inspiration. There are now over 50 murals to explore. Because the art is commissioned it is viewed as a collection and preserved. The area has been transformed from old abandoned buildings to hip restaurants, shops and bars. The area is very easy to find, continue walking down Fremont Street past the casinos.

Las Vegas Street Art: 18b Arts District

18b Arts District is an eighteen block area of galleries, antique shops, thrift stores and coffee shops.  It is FULL of street art and you could easily spend an entire afternoon exploring all the hidden alleys. Remember you are in the desert; dress for warm weather and bring water. This is a popular place for photo shoots so you may need to wait for perfect shot. Or, you could take a picture of the art behind the model and watch how quickly you are no longer ignored! Las Vegas Blvd runs through the area making it easy to get to by Uber or city bus.
